Wow. These are a new release from Atlas for 2007. They are hands down the best thing I've seen from Atlas as far as O scale freight cars go. They are exquisitely detailed and mostly constructed of die-cast metal! Basically, the entire bottom portion of the car is metal and the only plastic pieces on here are the very top sections and some of the detailing. With so much metal on board, these things have a very nice weight to them. If you pick one up for yourself, be very careful as the extraordinary detailing of these cars makes them VERY fragile. Also, the intermodal containers are sold separately and do not come with the set and they are $25 a piece, so outfitting one of these babies is pretty costly. You do not, however, HAVE to buy their containers. The cars have adjustment flaps and will accommodate most containers made by other manufacturers. The picture you see here shows my Weaver containers fitting with no trouble at all. I've also got some K-Line and MTH containers that fit in there as well. If you do buy some of the Atlas containers, that $25 gets you containers that are just as expertly detailed as the cars themselves. Absolutely remarkable! This is a 2007 model, added to my set in March of the same year. |
