SOU Engines (7 items)

MTH 20-20469-1 Southern GE 44-Ton Diesel Engine

This is a tiny little thing, but since MTH wisely gave it a die-cast metal body and 2 motors, it's really got some good pulling power. Made in 2015, added to my collection in April of 2017.

MTH 20-2704-1 Southern GP-9 Diesel Engine w/Proto-Sound 2.0

Part of my 2006 Vol. 2 catalog order. This beautiful engine is a bit out of place with most of my modern engines, but I couldn't resist picking one up. You can still see GP-9's on the roads every now and then, so thre's still a place for it on my layout. This is a 2006 model, added to my set in October of 2007.

MTH 20-2704-3 Southern GP-9 Diesel Engine (Non-Powered)

Just like the one above, but non-powered. This is a 2006 model, added to my set in October of 2007.

Lionel 6-11334 Crescent Limited 4-6-2 Pacific Steam Locomotive #1393 w/Legacy

Nobody can deny how beautiful the Southern Crescent is, and this model is no exception. An exceptional model. Made in 2012, added to my set in March of 2012.

Lionel 6-38424 Southern U30C #3804 Diesel Engine w/Legacy

I didn't order this one from the catalog, but picked it up on a whim at Legacy Station. Beautiful engine and it sounds great. Built in 2011, added to my set in October of 2011.

Lionel 6-81215 Southern H-24-66 Trainmaster #6300 w/Legecy

Not completely accurate to the real Southern trainmasters, but close enough. Sounds great! Made in 2014, added to my collection in November of 2014.

Lionel 6-84689 Southern Legacy 2-8-4 Berkshire #2716

A gorgeous engine. Can't go wrong with a Berk! Catalogued in 2017, added to my collection in June of 2018.

SOU Rolling Stock (20 items, sorted by item number)

MTH 20-20013F Southern 70' Streamlined Coach Passenger Car

Part of MTH's NASA Solid Rocket Motor Transport Set. Nice car. Made in 2010, added to my set in Ocotober of 2010.

MTH 20-91403.jpg Southern Bobber Caboose

Made in 2013, added to my set in November of 2013.

MTH 20-93403 Southern 50' Waffle Box Car #531154

From my 2008 Vol. 1 catalog order. I will probably end up patching these to NS eventually. Made in 2008, added to my set in March of 2009.

MTH 20-93403 Southern 50' Waffle Box Car #531159

Just like the Southern Box Car above, but a different road number. Made in 2008, added to my set in March of 2009.

MTH 20-97168 Southern #280257 Ps-2 Hopper

More stuff from my 2006 MTH catalog order. These little fellas are really done well and will make a nice addition to the layout. This photo was the first train picture I took in the basement of our new house! This is a 2006 model, added to my set in December of the same year

MTH 20-97168 Southern #280259 Ps-2 Hopper

Just like the car above, but a different car number. Made in 2006, added to my set in December of the same year.

MTH 20-97501 Southern Wood Chip Hopper Car

I got this on ebay for $16. When it arrived, one of the trucks was broken off from the car. I fixed that with some super-glue. I later weathered this car and I also glued sawdust to the wood load to give the car a more realistic look. This car was built in 1998 and added to my collection sometime in 2005.

MTH 20-98430 Southern (#62925) Coil Car

I had really never heard of a coil car prior to a few weeks before I got this car. Evidently these cars carry large spools, or coils, or wire and/or metal to wherever they might be needed. This is nicely built car with a good weight and with little plastic coils of metal under the lid for a touch of added realism. I specifically chose this Southern version of the coil car to match other Southern cars that I'm adding to my collection. Purchased Nov. 2005.

MTH 30-7524 Southern 4 Bay Hopper w/Coal Load

I see these things running around Atlanta all the time, so I figured I'd get a couple. Picked 'em up on ebay for $26 a piece in October of 2005. I really like the way this car looks!

MTH 30-7524 Southern 4 Bay Hopper w/Coal Load (#2)

A duplicate of the Southern hopper above. Yeah, both cars have the same number on them but I'm not that anal about stuff like that...at least not yet. If you don't know what I'm referring to, I'm talking about the actual numbers on the car. On these 2 cars, that number is "73464". The numbers on a train car are sorta like license plates on cars. A train enthusiast who is obsessed with realism would not want to have 2 like cars with the same number because in real life that wouldn't happen.

Lionel 6-25654 Southern "Crescent Limited" Heavywight Passenger Car 4-Pack

This is the matching passenger set to the Crescent Limited 4-6-2 Pacific. Wonderfully detailed and very well built! Made in 2012, added to my collection in March of 2013.

Atlas 8627-5 Southern Berwick Hy-Cube Box Car #43491

Made in 2009. Added to my collection in June of 2009.

Atlas 8627-6 Southern Berwick Hy-Cube Box Car #43494

Made in 2009. Added to my collection in June of 2009.

Weaver U1937LD Southern PS-2 Covered Hopper #4000

A well done weathering job makes these hoppers a great addition to my set. Built in 2007, added to my set in August of 2008.

Weaver U1937LD Southern PS-2 Covered Hopper #4063

Just like the car above, but with a different road number. Added to my set in August 2008.

Weaver U1937LD Southern PS-2 Covered Hopper #4117

Just like the car above, but with a different road number. Added to my set in August 2008.

Weaver U1937LD Southern PS-2 Covered Hopper #4198

Just like the car above, but with a different road number. Added to my set in August 2008.
